Laboratory Animal Facility is a component of campus animal resources that provides care for laboratory animals for investigators in the department of Brain Science at DGIST. It is dedicated to the humane use of animals in research and teaching.
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) - The IACUC reviews protocols, and the animal care and use program, and monitors related activities to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements. The IACUC includes scientists, veterinarians, and administrative staffs.
Animal housing rooms - It has capacity to house the laboratory mouse and rats in a separate room.
Services are provided on a fee-for-service basis and detailed for investigators in a monthly billing in a manner that meets grant and contractual administrative standards. Brain Science is committed to a certified program for the care of laboratory animals used in biomedical research and testing. The facility provides for separation of species, separation/containment for experimental conditions in a bio-containment environment, and designated space for various functions. Specifically, the facility includes the following:
The Biochemistry Core Lab provides investigators with a wide range of biochemical laboratory support and access to a well-equipped research laboratory suite. Carefully maintained quality control systems are in place for each assay or analysis. In addition to the methods and technologies currently in place, new techniques and innovative methods may be incorporated by the Brain Science equipment committee to meet the specific needs of your protocol. The Biochemistry Core lab assists investigators in coordinating aspects of obtaining research samples in an efficient, accurate manner as well as aiding investigators in fulfilling unique laboratory requirements dictated by their protocol.

The Tissue and Cell Culture Core Laboratory provides active culture systems for many types of mammalian cell lines and primary tissues, as well as maintains frozen stocks of a larger cell library.
General tasks include maintenance of active eukaryotic cell cultures and plating cells for experimental procedures. The Core has two fluorescence microscopes for detecting cells expressing any fluorescent indicators and picturing the image of cells using camera system. Other approaches available include cell cloning, establishment of primary cell cultures including mouse neuronal and glial cells, mycoplasma testing, specialized media preparation and generation of stable cell lines.

The Histology Core Laboratory provides comprehensive histology services for all rodent species (mouse, rat, etc.). General tasks include tissue preparation, embedding, processing, frozen and paraffin sectioning, and histochemical staining of primarily rodent samples. In addition, the Core Lab provides training opportunities for learning histology techniques and phenotyping analysis. The Core Lab possesses Tissue Processor, Tissue Embedding Console System, Microtome and other analytical equipment.
